
Canada's population declined by an estimated 102,436 people in 2025, based on full-year population estimates.
Alberta recorded the country's largest population increase, adding 59,970 residents. Saskatchewan also grew by 4,412, while New Brunswick (+1,438), Prince Edward Island (+1,315), Nova Scotia (+887), Nunavut (+295), the Northwest Territories (+124) and Yukon (+42) posted gains.
Ontario experienced the largest decline, losing 119,070 residents. British Columbia (-41,461), Quebec (-9,576), Manitoba (-527) and Newfoundland and Labrador (-285) also recorded population decreases.
These figures show the estimated change in population between January 1, 2025 and January 1, 2026. The 2025 estimates are preliminary.
