Not every industry in Canada pays close to the national average.
According to Statistics Canada, average weekly earnings across all employees were $1,303 in 2025, including overtime. But accommodation and food services averaged $518 per week, the lowest among the major industry groups.
Arts, entertainment and recreation was next at $760, followed by trade at $964. Several service-heavy sectors also sat below the national average.
One important note: these are weekly earnings, not hourly wages. Industry averages can be affected by part-time work, seasonality, and the number of hours worked.
